RELECTIONS ON THE DEATH OF CHRIST

THROWING PEARLS TO THE SWINE

I believe that the greatest tragedy in life is, when man does not realise, appreciate his own worth. He does not realise that he is worth more than all the flowers and trees, than all the animals, the fishes and birds of the earth ; he does not realise that he is a ‘masterpiece’. Yes, man is the ‘masterpiece’ of God.

What a tragedy when man does not realise that he has a ‘value’; he is priceless.
No, he is not worth one, two, or hundred thousand dollars, not even a million dollars. His price is much higher. Suffice it to say that not even a ‘blank cheque’ would be enough.

Man’s worth, price, value can only be measured by all the blood of God-man. I am so precious in the eyes of God that He sent His only begotten Son, just to save me, to redeem me. How precious and dear must I be in the eyes of God. No wonder he has got my name written on the palm of His hand. HE has done the same to you who are reading, and to each and every person who lived on earth since Adam and Eve.

This supreme Act of Redemption is still going on. Jesus suffered, shed His blood, to redeem even those who are yet to be born, till the last baby who will be born before the end of the world.

When we stop to think what value God has put on us, we realise then how precious we are, we understand fully that we are His masterpiece. Unfortunately the world does not give us the same value, does not appreciate us or treasure us with the same scale as God does. Were it like that there would be no ‘abortions’, no ‘mercy killings’. But we are not interested how the world looks upon us.

After all what gave life to that clay doll called Adam, was that ‘precious breath’ of God Himself. So, I do possess, I am carrying in me something of  God Himself, and so are we all. And God wants us to be saved , because he created us with the intention of going someday to heaven to enjoy His presence. As Augustine put it: “He created us for Himself.”

If we do not realise all this we would be throwing ourselves as fodder for the pigs … but we are the pearls, pearls of great value. So let us appreciate who we are, what we are, how we have been redeemed and at what a high price, a price that no Stock Exchange can ever reach.

Do reflect, do meditate do contemplate these days, especially today, Good Friday, look at yourself in a mirror and declare ‘You are God’s masterpiece’.
God, who created you, without your permission, is waiting for your permission to save you, to take you to heaven to live for eternity in bliss. Do not throw yourself as fodder for swine. You are worth much, much more than that.
