THERE WAS NO ROOM AT THE INN

THERE WAS NO ROOM AT THE INN

“Mary is now with child, awaiting to give birth, and Joseph is full of expectancy as he enters the city of his family. He searched everywhere for a place, where Mary could give birth to Him,  to whom heaven and earth belong.”
The scrolls of History closed  down  with the last saddest word of all time: “There was no room at the inn.” Yet … there was room;  for the rich, for those clothed in soft garments, for all those who tipped the inn-keeper.

YES, there was room … as it was the rendezvous of the worldly, the rallying place of the popular and successful, of the rich, of the harlots, of the business people … but not of the poor.  Jesus, the Son of God, the Creator had to be born in a stable, a place for outcasts, for the ignored, for the forgotten and for thieves. The Son of God had to enter from the backdoor, because  “There was no room at the inn.”

This happened over 2,000 years ago. Unfortunately it is still happening in the year 2012. “There is no room for Jesus”; on the Christmas Cards, in the jolly music that fill the streets of all great cities, in the popular greeting of ‘Happy Holidays’, in the shop windows decorations, in the street decorations.

What sense does it make to send a card to celebrate the birth of Jesus without HIS image. No snowman, no chariot, no sledge, no Father Christmas, no reindeers, no bells and no holly can pass on the message of this, the greatest day in the history of humanity. “There is no room for Jesus”.

Why wonder about the behaviour of Herod, of Pilate, of  the Pharisees and the Scribes. Truly, they all wanted to do away with Christ, even to the point of death. These characters still exist. On HIS Birthday they want to do away with Christ, saying: “There is no room for Jesus”.

Whoever puts away Christ from Christmas, is a Herod, a Pilate, a Scribe, a Pharisee. One can understand why these people feel ill at ease having Christ around in their life. HIS presence makes them feel guilty, that is why, “There is no room for Jesus”.
Let us ALL Christians, worthy of the name, boycott all cards not bearing the image of the Baby Jesus. WE are proud to declare that we are the followers of Christ and that on Christmas Day we want to celebrate HIS birth.

Let us all cause, not a ripple, not a wave, not a breaker, but a tsunami. We want to put Christ back into Christmas, and shout out for all to hear:  “There IS room for Jesus”.               May there be peace in the heart of all men of GOODWILL.
