THE HOLY BIBLE

“Merciful Father, as you have sent the Holy Spirit on Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, to write all that You wished and wanted, we pray You, send the same Holy Spirit on us, so that we may understand, appreciate Your Word, and make it our plan of life. This we ask for the merits of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.”

9….Jesus Christ, performed 35 miracles, according to the Gospel, that is, He gave thirty five ‘Signs’ of His power. It is only in John that we find the word ‘sign’ referred to ‘miracle’, because, after all, it was a sign of His Divinity.

It is interesting to note that only one miracle was recorded by the four Evangelists; the ‘Feeding of the five thousand’ at Bethsaida, Julias. We find it in Mt. 14; Mk.6; Lk.9; and Jn. 6. Could it have a symbolic meaning for those who believe, may we say that Jesus came to stay, in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist.

We, might even say that His Providence is ‘abundant’, remember what food remained after everyone had had his fill. According to the Gospel there were twelve baskets full that were extra. It IS worth reflecting upon this point. We do take our fill from HIM, and there is always more for tomorrow for the day after for all our days till the end of our sojourn on earth.

Then we have three miracles narrated in three Accounts of the Gospel;
·      Healing of Peter’s wife mother,  Capharnaum,         Mt.6,   Mk.1, Lk.4.
·      Healing of a leper,  Galilee,                                      Mt.8,   Mk.1, Lk.5.
·      A man sick of palsy,  Capharnaum,                          Mt.9,   Mk.2, Lk.5.
·      A man with the withered hand,  Capharnaum,          Mt.12, Mk.3, Lk.6.
·      Demoniac child, Mt.Tabor,                                       Mt.17, Mk.9, Lk.9.
·      Stilling the storm, Sea of Galilee,                             Mt.8,   Mk.4, Lk.8.
·      Gerasene demoniac,  Gerasa,                                    Mt.8,   Mk.5, Lk.8.
·      Jairus daughter,  Capharnaum,                                  Mt.9,   Ml.5,  Lk.8
·      Woman with an issue of blood, near Capharnaum,  Mt.9,   Mk.5, Lk.8.
·      Jesus walks on the water, Sea of Galilee,                  Mt.14, Mk.6,       Jn.6.
·      Blind Bartimeus,  Jericho,                                        Mt.20, Mk.10, Lk.18.

We have six miracles narrated by two Evangelists:
·      Demoniac in a Synagogue,  Capharnaum,                            Mk. 1, Lk.4.
·      The centurion’s son,  Capharnaum,                          Mt.8,               Lk.7.
·      Blind and dumb demoniac,  Galilee,                         Mt.12,             Lk.11.
·      Syrophoenician widow’s daughter,  near Tyre,         Mt.15, Mk.7.
·      Feeding of the 4,000,  Dalmanutha,                          Mt.15, Mk.8.
·      Cursing the fig-tree,  Mount of Olives,                     Mt.21,  Mk.11.
