THE HOLY BIBLE

“Merciful Father, as you have sent the Holy Spirit on Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, to write all that You wished and wanted, we pray You, send the same Holy Spirit on us, so that we may understand, appreciate Your Word, and make it our plan of life. This we ask for the merits of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.”

36 …. As we have seen, it must have been providential, and no coincidence that all those important ‘events’ I mentioned in the previous talk, all took place in the same spot, area; the hill where Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac, in the same place where Melchisedech offered ‘bread and wine’, where  later on the Temple was built, finally on the same spot, where Jesus was crucified, on Golgotha (the place of the sjkull, because of its shape), or Calvary.

In the Temple there was the Holy of Holies, in it was placed the ‘Ark of the Covenant’ (1Kings, 8, 1-18). For these reasons, Sion was considered as the holiest of places in Jerusalem, where symbolically, we find God, His Presence in His house.

So what does the phrase, “Daughter of Sion” mean?
According to Bible Literature or usage, whenever a name of a city or town follows the word ‘daughter ……’, this would mean that you will be referring to the whole city, the whole town, with all its population. So, when we say “Daughter of Sion”, that would mean the whole of Jerusalem with all the population, within its walls.

For this reason many a Prophet invited, encouraged “The Daughter of Sion” to rejoice, because God was in their midst, and so had no cause of alarm or fear from enemies. This message of rejoicing is found in Prophet Sophonias 3,14:

“Give praise, O Daughter of Sion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all thy heart, O Daughter of Jerusalem. The Lord has taken away your judgement, He had turned away your enemies; the king of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst, you shall fear evil no more.”
·      So there is the invitation to rejoice: “rejoice with all thy heart.”
·      There’s the  presence of the Lord:  “the Lord is in your midst.”
·      There’s an exhortation, not to fear:  you shall fear evil no more.”
·      Finally there’s God’s intervention: “the king of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst.”

These prophecies are all pointing towards Mary, as the new “Daughter of Sion”.  She has cause to rejoice, because through her God will be launching, starting His Plan of Salvation.

This was confirmed by another prophecy, that of Zacharias, 9, 9-10:
“Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Sion, shout for joy, O daughter of Jerusalem; Behold your King will come to you, the just and saviour; He is poor and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the faol of an ass.”
The above prophecy is a direct reference to Jesus, the Saviour, on Palm Sunday entering triumphantly…as a King… in Jerusalem.       /37
