ANTHONY, A FAITHFUL SERVANT, HUMBLE AND SIMPLE 6
Friar Anthony was for a time Master of Novices. It happened that he received into the Order a young man from Limoges, called Peter. But, after some time Peter started having doubts about his religious vocation. But Anthony acting under Divine Inspiration knew that it was the work of the devil who hates to see man walking in the direction of God the Creator.
Accordingly Anthony, whose office was that of guiding the Novices as their Master and inspired by the Holy Spirit called Peter to his side. Anthony opened Peter’s mouth and breathed into his mouth, “He breathed upon him and said: Receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22). Though incredible to believe, from that same moment all temptations vanished.
According to Friar Peter, who lived for the rest of his life as a Religious, he never had any temptations for the rest of his life. This incident was recounted by Friar Peter himself.
A similar incident took place, as found in the ‘Liber Miraculorum’, a book purposely written including most of the miracles performed through the intercession of St.Anthony. Another novice who was tempted by Satan, because he was fighting back all temptation, fell flat on the ground unconsciously. Anthony helped him get up and regain consciousness. Whereupon the young novice spoke of his experience that all of a sudden he was surrounded by a multitude of angels and for a moment witnessed the wonders of God.
Anthony stopped him and ordered him not to talk about that experience, revelation to anyone. It was only after Anthony’s death that this information came out to light. /7
